Lisboa Hotel is a casino hotel which was built in 1970 designed by Eric Cumine. It’s located in Sé in the city center of Macao. It is owned by the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau (STDM) which is owned by Stanley Ho. The Lisboa hotel was one the largest hotel and is the first five-star hotel in Macao. Inside the hotel there are different kinds of stores, restaurants, bakeries, banks, currency exchanges, and salons.
The architecture of Lisboa Hotel and casino are Portuguese style with some Chinese elements. The main building of the hotel is built with a Portuguese architectural style, it is a round building that looks like a golden birdcage. The original casino was a 2 story flat-roofed building and the hotel part was a 12 story round building which was an older hotel building nowadays called the east wing. In these 50 years, the Lisboa hotel has not stopped expanding. In the 1970s expanded the hotel side which faces Avenida de Lopo Sarmento de Carvalho now called the new wing. In 1980s, the original casino added 3 stories and the decoration on top of the casino. Built one more hotel building on the west and expanded the hotel side facing Avenida da Amizade. In the 1990s, reconstructed and expanded the west wing hotel and added more stories and decorations on top of the building. In the 2000s, Lisboa hotel used some of the restaurants, dance halls and hotel rooms changing them to the casino, rebuilt and expanded the hotel’s swimming pool. In 2009 the Lisboa hotel planned to have a reconstruction project but in the end, the project was shelved. Through more than 40 years of constant expansion, Lisboa hotel is nowadays a group of 3 brown and white connected buildings. It includes the east wing hotel building (the oldest one), west wing hotel (the new one), and the casino.
The Lisboa hotel is one of the landmarks in Macao. It also holds a small portion of the gaming industry and Macao’s economy. Because of the unique design, people through that the hotel’s architecture design is related to the Fung Shui Metaphysic. One of the founders from STDM: Mr. Yip Hon wrote billboard using three languages: Chinese, English, and Portuguese to alert the gamblers that in gaming you can’t always win. It can be relaxing but can make you addicted. It is better to keep it as entertainment.
澳門葡京酒店於1966年動工，並於1970年落成啟用。葡京酒店是一座由著名蘇格蘭裔建築師甘洺 (Eric Cumine) 所設計的賭場酒店，位於澳門市中心南灣友誼大馬路的西南端，為澳門旅遊娛樂股份有限公司所持有。葡京酒店為當時澳門最大的酒店亦是澳門首間五星級酒店，酒店內設有不同種類的商店、食肆、餅店、外幣找換店和髮廊。不論是本地居民，還是觀光遊客，都可以盡情享受酒店內的設施和服務。
葡京酒店是一座整體以鳥籠為基礎的葡萄牙風格建築，並將中式元素與現代文化巧妙融合運用。其主建築為一個圓筒型的葡萄牙風格建築物，遠看像一個金色的鳥籠。剛落成的葡京酒店有兩幢酒店大樓，包括兩層高的平頂賭場和十二層高的東座酒店大樓與其附翼建築物。經過三十多年不斷擴建和改建，現由三幢三棟相連的啡黃與白色相間的圓筒形建築物組成，包括原有的東座（舊翼）、新建的西座（新翼）和葡京娛樂場。
澳門葡京酒店無容置疑已經成為澳門的新地標之一，其在澳門的博彩業乃至澳門經濟市場上都佔有一席之地。由於酒店的外型獨特，外界普遍認為葡京酒店的整體建築與風水學有所關聯。在娛樂場門口有一個由澳門旅遊娛樂股份有限公司創辦人葉漢先生提字的標語，以中、英、葡三種語言寫著「賭博無必勝，輕注可怡情，閒時來玩耍，保持娛樂性。」
“Butterfly Method” Analysis：
According to the analysis of the butterfly method, people mentioned that when they were little, they always went there with their friends and families, therefore, Lisboa Hotel is a place where full of memories and it brings love to most of the Macao local residents. However, some of the people disagreed that Lisboa Hotel brings them the feeling of love since their normal lifestyle have been changed a lot after the construction of the Lisboa Hotel has completed. Nowadays, many people still go to the Lisboa Hotel and it is believed that this building is still able to bring happiness to people in the future. The Lisboa Hotel has been opened for more than 50 years and it is still the most representative hotel in Macao. The hotel is still in good condition, and its architectural specialties have still remained even it has been reconstructed for a few times. It is still a universality place where locals and tourists are highly recognized.
葡京酒店承載了許多澳門本地居民的童年和集體回憶。對許多人來說，葡京酒店集結了與家人和朋友間的美好記憶。然後，葡京的落成亦打破了眾多本地居民的生活環境和習慣。時至今日，葡京酒店依舊是親朋好友在假日聚會時的好去處。葡京酒店落成開業至今已有五十年的時間，但它在澳門娛樂博彩業仍佔有一席之位。即管經歷多次修葺和改建工程，葡京酒店仍舊保管其獨有的建築風格和特色。葡京酒店在本澳居民和外地旅客間的普及程度較高，儘管不是假日，本地居民和外地旅客也會選擇到酒店用餐或購物。
